There are three basics steps to Well Being.

1. EXERCISE can make you feel happier, have more energy, and help you get a good night’s sleep. It can also reduce your stress, help you feel more confident and be more productive. Exercise is the key to keeping off those extra pounds. Regular exercise can add years to your life through building strong bones and muscles, especially your heart muscle. It lowers your risk of cancer and eases the pain of arthritis. And best of all, it doesn’t have to be strenuous or intense. Just a little exercise can help you live longer than not exercising at all.

2. HEALTHY FOOD eaten in moderation is essential to well being. The U.S Government issued new dietary guidelines in 2015. The main addition to the guidelines is “Shift to healthier food and beverage choices. Choose nutrient-dense foods and beverages across and within all food groups in place of less healthy choices.” Eat a variety of vegetables, fruits, grains, low-fat dairy and a variety of protein foods and oils. Limit saturated fats and trans fats, added sugars and sodium. If alcohol is consumed, drink in moderation, up to one per day for adult women and up to two drinks per day for adult men.

3. HEALTHY HABITS include being part of a social community, not smoking, getting immunizations, screening tests and seeing a doctor when you are sick. Live in a healthy environment both within the home and in your neighborhood.
